Dopes are solvent-based. They crack and shrink, opening leak paths. Tapes shred, allowing leaks. They are hard to apply consistently, leaving room for error and leaks.
The Problem: Particles of dope and shredded tape can clog sensitive hydraulic and pneumatic systems, causing breakdowns. Neither tape nor dope can prevent corrosion.
